Projects
Customers contact me for a variety of reasons. Sometimes their clock has stopped working altogether or stops after a few minutes, or the striking mechanism is erratic. Alternatively, the clock is working satisfactorily but would benefit from a service or preventative maintenance to ensure it stays working well for longer. Among the typical clocks I work on are:
-
Longcase clocks
Every longcase clock is slightly different but will usually require cleaning, re-bushing of worn pivot holes and the replacement of gut lines. One or two small parts will also often need remaking, which I am able to do in my fully-equipped workshop. -
Spring-driven fusee bracket clocks
Bracket clocks, or wall clocks, generally require cleaning and the replacement of gut lines, and will typically need some re-bushing. -
French pendule clocks
Usually very well made, these clocks typically require thorough cleaning and oiling in order to be returned to excellent working order. -
Electric clocks
Electric clocks can exhibit a variety of faults which my background in physics and electronics enables me to diagnose. Rewiring and the replacement of contacts will often be necessary.
